There's A Dark Cloud

by Thomas Anderson

from the album Norman, Oklahoma

The poison touched my skin,

The poison filled my head;

In poison I met my friends,

In poison I made my bed.

You can feel it all around,

There's a dark cloud over this town.

See the cinders blow away,

See the ambulances leave;

The people bow and pray,

They want to believe.

But you can see the shadow on the ground,

There's a dark cloud over this town.

Somewhere a crying child

Sees her father with a gun,

His eyes are blank and wild,

He walks into the sun.

He fires into the air as he spins around,

There's a dark cloud over this town.

You can feel it in the wind,

You can feel it night and day,

You can try to just pretend

When all the people say,

If you can't say anything good why stick around?

There's a dark cloud over this town.

So here's to the denial

And all the averted eyes,

To all the determined smiles

And all the cheerful lies.

Can you hear the rain as it comes down,

There's a dark cloud over this town.
