Let the Sun

by Thomas Anderson

from the album My Songs Are the House I Live In

The lights I see when I close my eyes

The sounds I hear in my sleep,

Seem to me reality

And the rest I need not keep.

I'm not designed for a sky that's bright

An intense and blinding blue,

So I'll lie low 'til the wind blows cold

And the golden leaves blow through.

Let the sun stay behind the clouds

And I'll come out today,

Let the sun see things my way

I'm not made for sunny days.

Close the doors and draw the blinds

And play the music low,

Things look right in candlelight

The things I want to know.

And I want to know where you will be

If you will stay awhile,

When there's nothing left to see

Will I still see your smile.

Let the sun stay behind the clouds

And I'll come out today,

Let the sun see things my way

I'm not made for sunny days.
