Like the Snow

There was a snow that came one year,

Down from the Rockies it swept through here;

Late in the season, heavy and white,

And it covered the town one Winter night.

A humpbacked landscape, silent and pure,

Like a page out of some cheap calendar;

And the roads were covered in half the state,

And the schools shut down for five days straight.

In every yard a snow fort stood,

And sled rails rang through the neighborhoods;

With children's voices one sound made,

As the world shut down and stopped and played.
