Lunch With Nefertiti

by Thomas Anderson

from the album The Moon in Transit

The service is bad and the food is overpriced

The place is full of yuppies and their yuppie wives

And there never was a mood to sustain anyway

And after ten minutes you're out of things to say

Lunch with Nefertiti -- you waited for this day

Now you watch her lovely smile crumble away

Listen to these losers talkin' on their phones

They're boisterous and proud of the little things they own

I say "I saw you one time when I was in Berlin

But I was with somebody else back then"

Lunch with Nefertiti whispering from the past

Just one of those moments you know will never last

Well some things last forever, some for a day

Some people don't know the difference or care anyway

And if I could reach back across thousands of years

I'd pull you out of your chair and say "Let's get out of here"

Lunch with Nefertiti -- the crowd leaves at one

But time stands still when she walks in the sun
